Dr. Jennifer Tran for Congress: Policy Position
Climate Change Policy
It’s 2024. The Future we feared is here. The planet is warming at a terrifying rate.
We’re past the tipping points of hyper-destructive temperature increases.
Extreme Climate Disasters are happening all over the earth and destroying human lives. The time has passed for arguing about how we got here. The time has come for all humans to ask ourselves the same question. Do we want to do something about it? If so, then to what lengths are we willing to go? And do we want to only slow it down or are we ready to actually reverse its course?
The time has come for all humans to ask ourselves the same question. Do we want to do something about it?
The only experts with credibility are scientists who spend their lives studying the earth and its systems. The vast majority of them insist that if we keep going at this rate, we will severely impede our ability to grow food on large swaths of the planet. Other parts of the planet that currently house hundreds of millions of people will fast become uninhabitable.
Incremental changes to human behavior are minimal and have taken decades to agree upon. We need solutions that can make an impact NOW.
This tells us that we can no longer think about small incremental changes in human behavior as a solution to reducing carbon emissions. This is a non-starter as a solution. We can talk about our long term plan for transitioning from fossil fuels to clean electric. But our strategies for slowing climate change cannot depend on such slowly adopted cultural shifts. Forget about cap-and-trade programs with heavily-polluting industries in other countries.
We need to invest heavily as a nation in innovative technologies that can capture greenhouse gasses at scale to reverse the temperature increases humans have caused.
This is our only hope of reversing this trajectory we’re on. Any politician who tells you that they want to transition to clean power sources over time by changing human behavior simply doesn’t understand how dire the situation already is.
In Congress, Dr. Tran will fight every day to fund aggressive deployment of smart technologies like seaweed farming, modern hydropower, carbon sequestration, methane capture or any other technological advancement that shows similar promise with minimal side effects.
It’s 2024. The future is here to help.
